Surprisingly, the green pigment is restricted to the bottom of the pool where algae and other microscopic life were flourishing.  A few of the zoological micro inhabitants found in this benthic algal bloom are illustrated below.  The bloom occurred soon after seasonal pool maintenance ended, September 2002.
