NEW PIPELINE NAME - UNAPortal!!
Q. Why do I go to UNAPortal.una.edu when I try to access Pipeline.una.edu?
A.

Pipeline, a.k.a. Campus Pipeline, was the name of the portal system when UNA purchased it, as well as the name of the company from which it was purchased.   Since that time, SunGard Higher Education, from whom UNA also purchases software, acquired the company Campus Pipeline.   During the last system upgrade, the opportunity arose to change the name from something less product or company specific to a more UNA specific name.   Thus, the name UNAPortal arose as it is a portal into many other UNA systems.

For some time, you will be able to reach the portal system via pipeline.una.edu.   However, you will be redirected to unaportal.una.edu as this is the new name.   This is to be expected as it will take some time for all students, faculty, alumni, friends, etc. around the world to learn the new name.   So, do not be alarmed, you will still receive the same world class service and education from the University of North Alabama that you experienced with Pipeline, we just have a new name!

General FAQ
Q. What is my UNAPortal username?
A.

Your username should be your first and middle initials followed by your full last name.   Where duplicates exist, an additional number is added to your last name.   Example, JJDOE, JJDOE1

Please note this will be dependent on how you were entered into the Campus Mainframe System.   For many females, the middle name may be your maiden name.   Your username is automatically created by the system and authenticates to other systems (WebCT, Web for Students, Faculty), your username cannot be manually changed.

Q. I am behind a firewall and I am having trouble accessing UNAPortal information.  What do I do?  (This applies to both personal and corporate firewalls.)
A.

In order for email to work properly, you will need to have port 8080 open to unaportal.una.edu or allow any traffic to unaportal.una.edu.   Some other functions such as UNAPortal or WebCT chat, messageboards, etc. may require other ports.   If you have any problems with these functions and are behind a firewall, please contact cpsupport@una.edu and tell us the problem, and if you can, the brand of firewall you are behind.   We will assist you in finding the port number that this function is trying to use.   If you have Norton Personal Firewall, further information can be found at http://mblc.state.ma.us/books/catalogs/vc/firewall_help.php.   For further assistance, please email cpsupport@una.edu for information on accessing UNAPortal.

Q. When I click on something in UNAPortal or WebCT nothing happens.  Why?
A.

More than likely you have a pop up blocker installed on your system. (Yahoo! Toolbar, Google, etc.)   There are several different versions of these blockers, and therefore, we cannot tell you how to configure all of these.   You will need to read the help for your particular blocker.   Some blockers will allow the window to come up, if you hold the CTRL key down, while clicking on the link.   In Internet Explorer, with Windows XP Service Pack 2, there is a built-in pop-up blocker.   To configure IE's pop-up blocker, you must select Tools, then Pop-Up Blocker.   From this menu, you may turn the pop-up blocker on/off and add sites from which you wish to allow pop-ups.   If the pop-up blocker is turned on and you wish to allow it to work with UNAPortal or WebCT, select Pop-Up Blocker settings.   Finally, you must add each of the sites listed below.   In Netscape, you must select Edit, then Preferences, then Privacy & Security, then Popup Windows, then Allowed Sites, and add each of the sites listed below.

  • unaportal.una.edu
  • mail.una.edu
  • calendar.una.edu
  • webct.una.edu
  • sctweb.una.edu
  • paygw.una.edu
  • wireless.una.edu (Only necessary for use on the wireless network.)
You must allow the above sites or turn off pop-up blocking for each blocker installed on your system.   Allowing pop-ups for one blocker does not guarantee that another blocker on your system will allow the pop-ups.   If you have Windows XP, to ensure that you have Internet Explorer Service Pack 2, please run Windows Updates and make sure ALL the updates have been installed.

A.

Yes, you may set up your client to send and receive your UNA mail.   You must select IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) as your incoming mail server type.   During setup, you must configure your incoming (IMAP) server to be mail.una.edu.   Off campus (including dorms), your outgoing (SMTP) server must be the SMTP of your Internet Service Provider (ISP).   In the campus dorms, this will be the SMTP server of Comcast.   On campus, this will be mail.una.edu.   In all cases, you must set your incoming (IMAP) server to use an encrypted connection via port 993.

If you need help setting up an IMAP Client on campus (excluding campus dorms), please contact PCPC (7272) or email cpsupport@una.edu.   We fully support Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express, but will assist you with other products.   We do not allow POP access to email.
