Tardigrades

Typical habitats harboring abundant tardigrades

Tardigrade egg

Pseudobiotus sp. from sediments in shallow beaver pond along the Tenn. River, Florence, Alabama (March 2007)

The adult female carries her eggs around in her exuvium (shed cuticle from molting)

In the above, apparently two successive molts occurred in a relatively short time

The above picture is poor.  I believe it to be a juvenile Pseudobiotus.  It is attempting to puncture a nematode with its stylets.  On several occasions the young bear would attach its mouth to the nematode which would then react violently disrupting the bear's attempt to feed upon its body fluids.
